Amidst the chaos caused by the CrowdStrike update worldwide, a startup has secured $13.5 million to enhance security for affected devices. ZeroTier, based in California, raised the Series A funding led by Battery Ventures.
While traditional companies like Cisco and Palo Alto Networks focus on securing edge networks, the emerging trend in the industry is centered around device security. ZeroTier operates in this space and boasts support for over 3 million connected devices and 600,000 network administrators in more than 230 countries around the globe.
The company recently brought in former venture investor Andrew Gault as the leader to drive revenue and company growth. Founder Adam Ierymenko has transitioned to the role of CTO, focusing on the core technology and long-term vision. Gault, known for co-founding Gaikai and being an early investor in Oculus VR, aims to address the need for scalable, vendor-agnostic solutions in the enterprise space.
ZeroTier’s unique approach creates secure connections between devices like routers and sensors, enabling seamless communication as if they are on a local network. With 18 billion devices online currently and an estimated growth to 32 billion by 2030, Gault sees a significant opportunity in addressing the challenge of secure connectivity.
Metropolis, a company specializing in checkout-free parking payments, is among ZeroTier’s prominent clients.
In addition to Battery Ventures, Bonfire Ventures, Anorak Ventures, Grand Enterprises B.V., Airbridge Equity Partners, and First In Ventures also participated in the funding round.
