Echoes of Wisdom Allows Players to Play as Link
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is an innovative addition to the series, as it lets players control Zelda as the main character instead of Link. When portals engulf Hyrule and trap Link, Zelda must step up to save the kingdom. Although the game was only released on the Nintendo Switch last week, players have already discovered a bug that allows them to play as Link instead. Numerous YouTubers and influencers have shared videos demonstrating how to make the character switch.
Since a brief segment of the game features Link at the beginning, the character is already programmed as playable in the backend. To switch to Link, start a new game and create a new save after Link enters the dungeon and the door closes behind him. Proceed with the game until you reach Kakariko Village. If you have the sign post echo ability and encounter an enemy, head to the northeast forest with fog where Zelda can fall off the map.
To trigger the character switch, set up a sign post and read it as you fall between the trees, which will bring you to the system menu. Locate an enemy using the minimap in the bottom-right corner and have it eliminate Zelda. When you reload your save from before, you will respawn in the forest as Link!
While this exploit may not allow you to progress much in the game without the echo ability and its difficulty level, it showcases the multitude of bugs and performance issues in Echoes of Wisdom. Video creator alyo, who shared the aforementioned video, had to attempt the trick multiple times before succeeding.
Creators believe that this switch is relatively easy to execute due to the game’s numerous bugs and performance issues, as highlighted in reviews and reports from outlets like Digital Foundry. The glitch associated with the sign post, for instance, has led to various game-breaking glitches, such as one featured in a Reddit post that enables players to warp from the first dungeon to the final dungeon.
Players have been experimenting with different techniques in Echoes of Wisdom to test the game’s boundaries, continuing the Zelda game tradition of trying to break the game. For instance, using the bed can provide additional height and create infinite bridges, and players can even take naps within the game world.
