Meta’s integration of AI into apps like Instagram and Facebook has been underwhelming so far. Navigating through a Meta AI interface to find a friend’s Instagram and being bombarded with irrelevant information can be frustrating. However, with the introduction of Meta’s new Llama 3.1 405B model, a promising feature is on the horizon.
Soon, users will be able to request the AI to create avatars of them as astronauts, superheroes, or any other desired character during their interactions with Meta AI. This feature, named “imagine me,” allows users to prompt the AI to generate these unique images.
This functionality may remind users of previous apps like the popular Stable Diffusion-powered LensaAI, which gained significant traction a few years back. With LensaAI amassing nearly 13 million downloads in just 11 days, along with other generative AI apps rising in popularity on the iOS App Store.
In contrast to those paid avatar apps, Meta is offering this feature for free, indicating a potential surge in AI-generated selfies in the near future. However, it’s essential to remember the age-old saying – “if something is free, you might be the product.”
