Xbox revealed more details about its upcoming titles at Gamescom this week, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Along with some gameplay, a release date for the title on Xbox consoles and PC has been announced, as well as a release window for its launch on PlayStation 5. This seems to contradict a previous statement from Phil Spencer that Great Circle wouldn’t be a multiplatform release or that Xbox was committed to console exclusivity.
Spencer later mentioned in an interview that “we run a business” at Xbox and are constantly seeking ways to strengthen their franchises amidst industry pressure to grow. He emphasized the need for adapting to changes in game development and distribution to deliver better games accessible to more players.
It’s intriguing that news of a PlayStation launch wasn’t held back until after the game’s release on Xbox. Perhaps the anticipation of a multiplatform release benefits Xbox more than maintaining the facade of console exclusivity. Originally, Great Circle was intended to be a multiplatform launch prior to Xbox acquiring Bethesda, indicating a positive outcome for gamers amidst corporate decisions.
As for personal gaming preferences, the new Monster Hunter Wilds footage caught my attention at Gamescom. Avowed also sparked my interest. I’m contemplating whether to delve into Black Myth: Wukong despite it not falling into my usual genre preferences. Additionally, Tactical Breach Wizards has been recommended to me, so I plan to give it a try.
