Xbox surprised fans on Thursday by releasing Square Enix JRPGs, including six Final Fantasy games and two Mana titles, for Xbox and PC. This announcement was made at the Tokyo Games Show.
The pixel remastered versions of Final Fantasy 1-6 are now available, featuring 2D pixel remasters of these classic games. Originally released on Steam in July 2021, these games have now been brought to various platforms. They can be purchased individually or as part of a bundle.
While Final Fantasy 7 often steals the spotlight, Digital Trends ranked Final Fantasy 6 as the best mainline game in the series, praising its gameplay and visuals. The pixel remaster brings updated soundtracks, font options, and the ability to toggle random encounters.
In addition to the Final Fantasy games, Trials of Mana and Legend of Mana are now available on Xbox Game Pass. A new trailer for Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake was also unveiled, set to release on various platforms on November 14.
Square Enix’s announcement marks a departure from its traditional partnership with Sony, bringing these JRPGs to Xbox. While newer Final Fantasy titles remain exclusive to Sony, Xbox is expanding its JRPG catalog with games like Dragon Quest and Persona series.
