Xbox is not holding out for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to bring a Call of Duty game to Game Pass. The company officially announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 from 2023 will be added to the service on Wednesday, July 24.
This announcement had been heavily rumored, with reports circulating from sources like Insider Gaming, and was confirmed on Xbox Wire. Xbox stated that the game will be available on Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Ultimate, offering most modes, including single-player and the popular Zombies mode. However, it seems that Warzone, the battle royale spinoff, is not included in this release.
Activision has been remaking the Modern Warfare trilogy in recent years, starting with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, a remake of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Modern Warfare 2 also met with success.
However, Modern Warfare 3 did not receive stellar reviews from critics. Digital Trends even went as far as to call it potentially “the series’ worst installment” due to its uninspired single-player campaign, lackluster missions, and absence of original maps for multiplayer. While it lacks originality in multiplayer, it does introduce modern updates, such as enhanced weapon customization.
Despite its shortcomings, being a Call of Duty title ensures a large player base, with Modern Warfare 3 being the second bestselling game of its year, just behind Hogwarts Legacy.
Since Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, fans have eagerly awaited the addition of these games to Game Pass. While nothing is set in stone yet, there are rumors suggesting that Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy could be joining soon.
