(Editor’s Note: WWE co-founder Vince McMahon resigned from his executive chairman role at TKO amid sex trafficking allegations. Digital Trends reached out to 2K Games to inquire if references to Vince McMahon and other implicated parties would be removed from the game. No response has been received from WWE’s PR team.
The WWE 2K series has undergone a revival for the past two years, culminating in its 2022 and 2023 installments. The upcoming WWE 2K24 aims to continue this momentum, building on the series’ newfound popularity while adding more content on top of a strong foundation.
No Surprises
WWE 2K24 doesn’t significantly deviate from its predecessor, staying close to its stable foundation which has proven to be successful. The game introduces a new minigame during one-on-one bouts to replicate the specific drama of a wrestling match.
The new modes in WWE 2K24, such as the updated Backstage Brawl and the brand-new Ambulance Match, add to the game’s overall experience. However, issues still persist with computer-controlled characters and multi-man matches.
Fixing Showcase
The addition of on-screen button commands alongside the goals in the MyShowcase mode is a game-changer, making the mode much more enjoyable. This change arrives just in time for this year’s Showcase, which seems like it’ll be the best yet, as it includes classic Wrestlemania matches. The level of authenticity in the game, as witnessed by WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley, is highly commendable.
WWE 2K24 is set to launch on March 8 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
