Razer has unveiled its most powerful gaming laptop to date, the 2024 Razer Blade 18, featuring a groundbreaking new feature that is just as exciting as the laptop itself. Unveiled at CES in January, the new Blade 18 boasts the distinction of being the first laptop in the world to come equipped with Thunderbolt 5.
With Thunderbolt 5, users can benefit from three times the bandwidth of Thunderbolt 4, increasing from 40Gbps to 120Gbps. This significant bandwidth upgrade ensures minimal lag when working with multiple high-resolution displays and opens up the possibility of connecting desktop-class GPUs through external docks.
While external GPUs have waned in popularity recently, Intel aims to reignite interest with the introduction of Thunderbolt 5. Intel has even hinted at the potential for “external AI accelerators” in the future, promising increased local AI performance.
Additionally, the increased bandwidth allows users to power an external monitor with a refresh rate of up to 540Hz.
Aside from Thunderbolt 5, the Razer Blade 18 boasts a range of spec upgrades. Razer claims it is the thinnest laptop in its size category powered by an Intel HX-series CPU, specifically the Core i9-14900HX.
The laptop offers premium display options, including a factory-calibrated 4K resolution display with a 200Hz refresh rate, quick response time, and wide color gamut coverage. Another option is the QHD+ 300Hz mini-LED display with high brightness and color accuracy.
