Apple unveiled significant software updates for its flagship products at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. Among these updates is iPadOS 18 for Apple’s tablet lineup.
Following several developer and public beta updates, iPadOS 18 is now available to all users.
When is the release of iPadOS 18?
Apple officially released iPadOS 18 to the general public on Monday, September 16. The new minimum requirement for compatibility with this update is an A12 Bionic chip or later installed in your iPad. Unfortunately, older iPads with an A11 Bionic chip or earlier are not compatible with this update.
To receive the updates, your iPad must be one of the following models:
- iPad Pro (M4)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later)
- iPad Air (M2)
- iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
- iPad (7th generation and later)
- iPad mini (5th generation and later)
While many devices support iPadOS 18, not all features will be available on every tablet. For example, Apple Intelligence, slated for release in iPadOS 18.1 and later versions, will only be compatible with specific models like the iPad Pro and iPad Air.
If you want to utilize Apple Intelligence, consider upgrading to a compatible iPad model.
What does iPadOS 18 offer?
iPadOS 18 offers enhanced customization tools for personalization of the Home Screen, Control Center, and user interface parts. It also includes improvements in communication and sharing features, messaging, FaceTime, AirDrop, and iMessage. Users can now add dynamic effects to texts and schedule messages.
The update enhances the Photos app with better search capabilities, sharing options, editing tools, and integration with social media and messaging apps. Other core apps like Mail, Safari, Maps, Wallet, Notes, and Journal also receive various enhancements for a more intuitive experience.
But what about Apple Intelligence?
Apple Intelligence is gradually being introduced through future updates like iPadOS 18.1, 18.2, and so on. It is designed to enhance Siri, offer advanced writing tools, and create personalized experiences through custom Genmojis and memory movies. This feature aims to automate tasks, improve productivity, and enhance creativity using contextual data.
