Microsoft recently confirmed that four undisclosed titles will soon be available on platforms beyond Xbox, with the announcement that the games are Hi-Fi Rush, Pertiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded. These revelations solidify previous rumors that were circulating about the expansion of these games to other platforms.
All four titles will no longer be exclusive to Xbox, as they will be making their way to PlayStation hardware. In addition, Pertiment and Grounded will also be extending to Nintendo Switch, with Grounded even supporting cross-play across Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC.
This shift in exclusivity is a significant change for Microsoft following its acquisition of Activision Blizzard last October. Concerns over the possibility of a monopoly led Microsoft to make these titles available on multiple platforms, as part of its commitment to collaborate with other companies.
The most significant Xbox exclusives, like Halo and Starfield, will remain exclusively on the Xbox platform, as Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer assures fans that their hardware purchases were still worthwhile.
As part of the announcement, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty expressed Microsoft’s commitment to reaching players on all platforms and devices, emphasizing that their first-party games will be available on Game Pass from day one.
With Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the company also gains potential in the mobile gaming space, particularly with the addition of King and its popular games, such as Candy Crush. The move to introduce these titles to other platforms and devices aligns with Microsoft’s goal to connect players from around the world.
While older games like Hi-Fi Rush, Pertiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded will now be available on new platforms, Microsoft’s mobile gaming ambitions remain a point of interest as the company navigates the ever-evolving gaming landscape.
