- Volley plans to use its latest funding to develop advanced LLM-powered NPCs
Volley has secured $55 million in Series C funding with Microsoft’s M12 Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners as the lead investors. This brings the total funding for the startup to over $75 million.
The company specializes in creating AI-powered games that can be played using voice commands on platforms such as Amazon’s Alexa, Fire TV, and Roku TV. With over five million monthly players enjoying Volley’s voice-enabled games, the startup is at the forefront of voice-controlled gaming.
With the new funding, Volley aims to enhance its LLM-powered NPCs and improve speech recognition technology. Currently, the company employs a proprietary stack that combines speech recognition, natural language processing, LLM-powered content generation, and speech synthesis.
But this is just the beginning.
CEO & co-founder of Volley, Max Child, stated, “This latest funding round will accelerate our development of new voice-controlled, AI-powered games. Large language models and other emerging voice AI technologies are allowing us to create entirely new categories of games that weren’t previously possible. We’re excited to expand our game portfolio and attract new players with the backing of Microsoft and Lightspeed.”
Volley’s games are designed to be controlled solely by voice through devices like smart TVs, smartphones, and smart speakers, making them easily accessible to casual gamers without the need for touch screens or controllers.
This funding round also saw participation from General Catalyst, Causeway Media Partners, Amazon Alexa Fund, BITKRAFT, Y Combinator, Boost VC, Alumni Ventures, Waverley, Gaingels, and Riverside.
