Mobility technology company Valeo is set to introduce Valeo Racer at SXSW 2024, utilizing the latest features from Unity for the first time. This innovative ‘extended reality’ in-car gaming experience seamlessly integrates real-world surroundings, creating new adventures for passengers.
Valeo Racer combines real-world perception with digital gaming elements through the vehicle’s ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance Systems) and AI algorithms. It leverages live environment data within Unity’s Runtime to deliver a dynamic and adaptive gaming experience.
Revolutionizing the Gaming Experience
Powering core game functions, Unity’s Runtime enables passengers to connect their devices to in-vehicle WiFi for engaging multiplayer competitions in Valeo Racer, ensuring that every ride is a unique and enjoyable experience, whether it’s a short commute or a long journey.
Geoffrey Bouquot, EVP Strategy and CTO at Valeo, shared, “As vehicles become equipped with more sensors and software to support driving assistance and autonomous systems, we recognize the opportunity to repurpose onboard technology for new entertainment experiences.”
He added, “Our collaboration with Unity has been a journey of partnership and innovation, allowing us to seamlessly integrate digital elements into the live feed of the vehicle environment. We are excited about paving new paths together.”
Enhancing Passenger Satisfaction
Unity’s engine has been increasingly adopted in the automotive industry, serving various purposes from pre-production design and ADAS simulation to in-vehicle infotainment systems. Last year, Unity showcased Unity 6 and its AI-powered future, in addition to partnering with Roku to provide advertisement opportunities for app developers.
Marc Whitten, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Unity, expressed, “We envision the unique experience created with Valeo as a model for engineers and creators to expand the use of our technology beyond safety measures, focusing on ultimate passenger satisfaction in both the front seat and back.”
On the gaming front, collaborations continue to evolve. Rovio teamed up with Mercedes-Benz to offer popular games on their in-car infotainment systems, while BMW introduced in-car gaming experiences to their BMW 5 series in partnership with AirConsole.
