Ubisoft has officially announced that the majority of the team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has been reassigned to other projects, refuting previous reports of disbandment.
A recent video from video game outlet Origami claimed that Ubisoft was dissatisfied with the sales of Prince of Persia Metroidvania, leading to the team at Ubisoft Montpellier being transferred to different projects. Despite attempts by the team to propose a sequel or a larger expansion, Ubisoft’s focus shifted towards projects with higher sales potential.
In a statement to Digital Trends, The Lost Crown senior producer Abdelhak Elguess verified these developments, mentioning that most of the team members have been redirected to other projects to leverage their skills. While there are no plans for further content updates, Ubisoft remains committed to the Prince of Persia franchise.
“Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has completed its post-launch roadmap with three free content updates and a DLC in September. Our current efforts are directed towards expanding the game’s reach, with recent releases on Steam and upcoming availability on Mac. The team members involved in The Lost Crown have transitioned to new projects where their expertise will be valuable,” Elguess explained.
Although specific details on the new projects were not disclosed by Ubisoft, Insider Gaming speculates that the team members may have joined projects such as Beyond Good and Evil 2, a mainline Ghost Recon title, and a Rayman remake.
Prince of Persia The Lost Crown – Reveal Gameplay Trailer
Ubisoft has faced recent challenges within its studio, including the postponement of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows from November to February 14, 2025, to enhance the overall gaming experience through additional polish. The company also responded to disappointing sales of Star Wars Outlaws by revising its business model, eliminating the season pass and ensuring simultaneous releases on Steam.
CEO Yves Guillemot further announced an internal review to align with player feedback. Subsequent updates to Star Wars Outlaws aim to address bugs and improve gameplay quality, alongside a price reduction for the Assassin’s Creed: Shadows Collector’s Edition to compensate for the canceled season pass.
