Listing tasks and to-dos is a very personal process. While some users prefer apps with intricate features to manage their tasks better, others get overwhelmed by feature overload. This is why software developer Adam Whitcroft created a dead-simple to-do app called Twodos that doesn’t nag you about unfinished tasks.
Whitcroft, known for his work at a16z-backed Rewind and Shopify, desired a clutter-free app for handling his tasks.
“I usually rely on Apple’s native apps (Notes, Mail, Calendar, etc.) but never clicked with Reminders. It presents a barrage of features like dates, times, tags, locations, subtasks… it’s overwhelming. Most other apps in the App Store focus more on adding features rather than offering a distinct experience,” Whitcroft explained to TechCrunch.
Twodos keeps it simple with just two sections for tasks: Sooner or Later. You can add tasks, mark them as done with a swipe, and clear all tasks from the archive. An arrow button allows you to move tasks between folders.
Although there are no reminders, you can track the time elapsed between adding a task and completing it in the archive. Tasks can be synced to iCloud, but a Mac client is not in the works for Whitcroft.
Twodos seamlessly integrates with iOS, offering home screen and lock screen widgets, light/dark themes, and customizable accent colors.
Created primarily for personal use, Whitcroft believes this method works well for non-time-bound tasks. He has no plans to overload the app with features but intends to make small improvements over time.
Other app developers are exploring different approaches to task management. Recently, Christian Reber, creator of Wunderlist (acquired by Microsoft), launched Superlist, designed to separate personal and work tasks with shared spaces. Reber sees Superlist as a potential unicorn in the making.
Clear, known for its simple task management, unveiled Clear 2, emphasizing intuitive navigation without overwhelming features.
