The Twitter-like app Threads from Instagram is evolving to resemble its competitor X with recent updates, including trending topics, an in-app camera, drafts, and now a private bookmarking feature for saving posts for later reference.
Bookmarking has become a popular feature for former X users and avid news consumers, allowing them to curate a collection of links and posts for easy reference later on. On X, paid subscribers can even organize bookmarks into folders for better organization.
The bookmarking feature on Threads is slightly hidden compared to X, requiring users to tap on the three-dot menu to access the “Save” option instead of directly from the main timeline. To access your bookmarks later, you’ll need to navigate to the app’s Settings screen.
Instagram is gradually rolling out new features on Threads, leading to some users not yet having access to the latest functionality like bookmarking and trends. This staggered release is due to Threads having fewer resources compared to Meta’s other projects, but with a substantial user base of 130 million monthly active users.
Aside from bookmarks, Threads users are also noticing additional features like receiving notifications from Threads and Facebook within Instagram notifications. Threads is further expanding its reach with a cross-posting feature from Facebook, as confirmed by the company recently.
