During its annual digital showcase, THQ Nordic unveiled a teaser for a new project in the Darksiders franchise, hinting at a possible continuation of the story introduced over 14 years ago.
The teaser, a slow cinematic sequence, showcases what appears to be Hell, with three fiery beasts known as the Charred Council, calling out for the “horsemen.” According to a description on Xbox Wire, “It won’t be long until we reveal more about where the Darksiders series is going next, but for now, know this … the Four Horsemen will ride again.”
It remains unclear if this will be a direct sequel to the previous games in the action-adventure hack-and-slash series. The original game focused on War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who found himself in a battle against Heaven and Hell. The cliffhanger ending teased the arrival of the other horsemen: Strife, Death, and Fury.
While the sequels Darksiders 2 and Darksiders 3 explored parallel stories, the last release in the series was Darksiders Genesis in 2019. With games following each horseman, fans are eager for a chronological sequel.
Given the success of previous releases, a remaster seems unlikely, leaving room for new possibilities in the upcoming installment of the Darksiders franchise.
