Despite the fact that gaming is the biggest market for XR and VR headsets, many devices have shifted their focus away from gaming. However, HTC Vive is changing the game with the launch of the Focus Vision, a VR headset specifically designed for PC gamers.
Distinct from Apple’s Vision Pro, the Focus Vision targets PC VR gamers, location-based VR venues, and enterprise users. While previous Focus headsets were tailored for different markets, the Focus Vision stands out as it offers features like quick-swap battery packs, automatic IPD adjustment, and easily replaceable pads for multiple users.
With a focus on adaptability and durability, the Focus Vision offers advanced features like eye-tracking and visually lossless DisplayPort quality. It comes with two controllers and supports navigation through eye, hand, and environment tracking.
Featuring a 2448 x 2448 resolution, wide 120-degree field of view, and 90Hz refresh rate, the Focus Vision offers an enhanced visual experience. The device also promises an option for 120Hz refresh rates via DisplayPort by the end of 2024.
Equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR Gen 1 chip, the Focus Vision can function as a standalone VR headset, running Viveport games and apps. It comes with 16GB of memory, 128GB of storage, and a microSD card slot for expandable storage up to 2TB.
The HTC Vive Focus Vision is available for preorder at $999 for consumers, with a free Vive Wired Streaming Kit for early buyers. The Business Edition is priced at $1,299. This premium PC VR headset is aimed at a different market compared to the Quest 3, which offers a more affordable option.
Looking ahead, Meta Connect’s upcoming launch of the Quest 3S is anticipated, adding to the competitive landscape of VR headsets.
