Initially, I had doubts about the Steam Deck’s capabilities, fearing its battery life and bugs might hinder my gaming experiences. However, with the introduction of the improved OLED model, my perspective has changed drastically. The Steam Deck has become my go-to gaming device, surpassing even my consoles in terms of usage.
My realization occurred when I powered up my PlayStation 5 to download a game, only to find that the last game I played was on my Steam Deck. In fact, I realized that I had hardly used my Xbox Series X or PC for gaming in recent months. The Steam Deck had overtaken all other platforms in terms of gameplay time.
Despite owning a Nintendo Switch, which I still frequently use, the Steam Deck has become my primary gaming device. Even when my consoles can offer superior performance for certain games, the portability and flexibility of the Steam Deck have completely changed the way I approach gaming. It has become my preferred choice for gaming on the go or at home.
While my preference for the Steam Deck can be attributed to its portability, the device itself has significantly improved since its launch. The OLED model has addressed many initial concerns, and developers have fully embraced the platform, offering a wide range of games optimized for it. Despite still enjoying first-party exclusives on my consoles, the bulk of my gaming time now belongs to the Steam Deck.
I still appreciate my consoles for specific titles, but until a new model is released, the Steam Deck remains my gaming device of choice.
