If you’re in the market for a new DualSense controller, be prepared to allocate a bit more of your budget. Sony appears to have quietly increased the prices of most DualSense models without any official announcement.
The price adjustments were discovered by Wario64, a popular gaming account on X (formerly Twitter), who noted a $5 increase across various online retailers like PlayStation Direct, Best Buy, and Target. Sony has not issued a formal statement regarding the price hike or provided any reasons for it.
This price increase affects nearly all DualSense controllers. While standard options and some color variants now cost $75, special editions that were previously $5 more, such as the Sterling Silver or Astro Bot controllers, are now priced at $80. However, the DualSense Edge remains at its original $200 price tag due to its niche, premium features.
Not just controllers, there have been price hikes across the PlayStation range. The discless version of the PlayStation 5 Slim saw a $50 increase from $400 to $450, while the PlayStation Plus subscription service also underwent a significant price adjustment in 2023. The Premium tier subscription now costs $160 annually, up from $120, to enhance the gaming experience and offer added value to subscribers.
Earlier today, PlayStation teased a nine-minute technical presentation on the future of the PlayStation 5, hinting at a possible PlayStation 5 Pro reveal. Given the anticipated power and specialization of this console, it is expected to come with a higher price tag than the standard PlayStation 5.
