Get a sneak peek at the upcoming Battlefield game and what to expect. According to an interview with IGN, the new installment will harken back to the modern setting of Battlefield 3 and 4, a departure from the futuristic Battlefield 2042.
In the words of Vince Zampella, founder of Respawn, “It’s that peak of Battlefield-ness in those Battlefield 3 and 4 days that we aim to recapture. We want to go back to the core of what Battlefield truly is.” Expect a return to the classic modern warfare era that many players remember fondly.
Early concept art hints at a European city engulfed in flames and smoke, featuring helicopters and ships in the background, suggesting the return of aerial and naval combat.
The next Battlefield game is a high priority for EA, with Motive Studio, DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect Studios all devoted to its development. Zampella promises an expansion of the Battlefield experience without specifics on the new features.
After the mixed reception of Battlefield 2042, EA is refining its approach by scaling back from 128-player maps to 64-player ones. This decision aims to create denser, more focused gameplay experiences.
Reflecting on previous mistakes, Zampella states, “I’d rather have nice, dense, really nice, well-designed play spaces. Some of them are really good. I can’t wait for you to see some of them.”
