Rumors are already swirling about the upcoming M5 MacBook Pro, set to be released in 2025. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is planning to switch to a new camera supplier for this model.
In a recent Medium post highlighted by MacRumors, Kuo revealed that Sunny Optical, a top-tier camera module supplier, will be replacing LG Innotek and Sharp as the camera supplier for the MacBook Pro.
This change is expected to bring potential cost savings for Apple as they consolidate suppliers. However, it could also lead to an increase in camera quality, addressing the current 1080p FaceTime camera on the MacBook Pro.
Many users are hoping for a resolution and quality bump, especially as other laptops offer higher megapixel counts and resolutions. This change could also pave the way for Face ID integration on the MacBook Pro, a feature that has been long-awaited but not yet implemented by Apple.
The new camera module may also signal a larger redesign for the MacBook Pro, possibly making it thinner like the recent M4 iPad Pro. While these changes are not expected in the upcoming MacBook Pro releases slated for this year, they could bring significant updates in 2025.
Additionally, Kuo predicts that the switch to Sunny Optical may extend to other Apple devices like the iPhone and iPad in the future, potentially enhancing camera capabilities across the product lineup.
