For those eagerly anticipating the release of the Pixel Watch 3 next month, there’s been a recent discovery that might affect your decision. Based on design leaks shared by 9to5Google, it seems that the Android requirements for the Pixel Watch 3 have changed from its predecessor, potentially excluding users with older Android phones.
According to the leaked marketing images, the Pixel Watch 3 will demand an Android phone with Android 10.0 or higher for compatibility, whereas the previous model required Android 9.0.
While this modification might not impact the majority of prospective Pixel Watch 3 buyers, it is a significant alteration. With only around 13% to 14% of Android users currently operating on Android 10, and fewer on Android 9, it raises a challenge for some users. It’s worth noting that Android 14 is the latest version, with Android 15 on the horizon.
The anticipated launch date for the Google Pixel Watch 3 is Tuesday, August 13, at a Made by Google event. Alongside the watch, we can expect the unveiling of the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Fold Pro. Moreover, the Google Pixel Watch will likely be available in two sizes, 41mm and 45mm.
The upcoming watch will feature an upgraded chipset compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 chip in the Google Pixel 2. Additionally, rumors suggest it may include an ultra-wideband (UWB) chip for precise tracking and communication, along with a brighter display than the existing model.
The Made by Google event will commence at 10 a.m. PT on August 13, with a live stream available on platforms like X and YouTube.
