The tech world has been buzzing about Samsung’s latest phones and smartwatches recently, but now it’s Google’s turn to shine. Prices for the Google Pixel Watch 3 have just leaked ahead of the upcoming Made by Google event next month, and unfortunately, the news isn’t great.
The leak comes from the French website Dealabs, which revealed European prices for the entire Pixel Watch 3 series, including the larger Pixel Watch 3 XL model. Here are the prices:
Pixel Watch 3
- Wi-Fi model – 399 euros (around $436)
- Wi-Fi/LTE model – 499 euros (around $546)
Pixel Watch 3 XL
- Wi-Fi model – 449 euros (around $491)
- Wi-Fi/LTE model – 549 euros (around $600)
Comparing these prices to other smartwatches, they seem quite high. For instance, last year’s Pixel Watch 2 launched at 349 euros for the Wi-Fi model and 399 euros for the LTE version. This marks an increase of 50 euros and 100 euros, respectively.
The comparison with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7, which starts at 319 euros for the Wi-Fi model and only goes up to 369 euros for the LTE version, makes the Pixel Watch 3 prices even less appealing.
Although these are European prices, it’s likely that similar increases will be seen in the U.S., considering the reported prices. The Pixel Watch 2 is currently priced at $350 for the Wi-Fi model and $400 for the LTE version in the U.S. If the Pixel Watch 3 starts at $400 and goes up from there, it might be a tough sell.
Will the higher price be justified by new features? It’s hard to predict. Apart from a larger XL model, the Pixel Watch 3 isn’t expected to have major design changes. A chipset upgrade and the inclusion of ultra-wideband (UWB) connectivity are anticipated, but the full extent of these upgrades remains unknown.
Given the current information, a $50 price increase for the Pixel Watch 3 seems hard to justify. While there may be undisclosed features that make the price worthwhile, Google faces stiff competition from the impressive Galaxy Watch 7.
The Google Pixel Watch 3 is set to be announced on August 13.
