One of the most highly anticipated releases in 2023 was Dead Island 2, a game that had been in development for a staggering ten years before finally hitting the shelves in April 2023. This open-world, zombie-slaying adventure captured the hearts of fans worldwide with its high-energy gameplay, gory zombie battles, arcade elements, and surprising humor amidst the chaos. Recently, a brand new expansion for Dead Island 2 called SoLA was launched.
SoLA takes players into a festival atmosphere set in Los Angeles, the main location of the game. A new trailer released for the launch of SoLA showcases a stunningly crafted environment with new ways to annihilate zombies, including innovative and somewhat disgusting new undead variants created by Dambuster Studios.
Dive Into The Undead
In SoLA, players must confront a zombie uprising within the unconventional setting of a music festival. The expansion features an engaging mini-storyline and various side missions to complete. Unlike the previous expansion named Haus, which was more linear, SoLA offers a more open and immersive experience. Two new terrifying zombie types, the Whipper and the Clotter, have been introduced in SoLA, promising a chilling gameplay experience for brave players.
These new zombies demonstrate unique behaviors never before seen in the Dead Island series. The Whipper wields its own intestines as a deadly weapon, while the Clotter can disintegrate into a bloody mess and reconstruct itself in an instant. Prepare yourself for some gruesome encounters in Dead Island 2.
Dambuster Studios expressed their commitment to creativity in designing these new enemies, aiming to deliver fresh and unprecedented challenges to players:
‘The starting point was always the mechanics of the two new archetypes. They both offer completely new behaviors never seen before in the Dead Island enemy roster. It’s tough, but we love the challenge. We like creating things for the game that you won’t have ever seen before.’
SoLA fully leverages Dead Island 2’s ‘F.L.E.S.H.’ Engine to provide innovative ways to battle the undead in the game.
If you have the Dead Island 2 expansion pass, you can download SoLA now. For individual purchase, the expansion is also available for download, and you’ll need to make the purchase first. Moreover, SoLA offers the option to play with friends, provided Dead Island 2 supports crossplay.
