Midjiwan’s award-winning 4X strategy game The Battle of Polytopia has signed a partnership with Apple Arcade, making the full game available to subscribers along with DLC and all tribes unlocked immediately through The Battle of Polytopia+.
These additional tribes, previously behind a paywall for non-subscribers, introduce a fresh twist to strategic gameplay with bonus buildings, technology, and units to explore.
Apple Arcade players now have access to all 16 tribes, ranging from the fruit-themed Imperius to the chilly Polaris.
A Unique Strategy Experience
When The Battle of Polytopia was initially launched by Midjiwan in February 2016, it featured only five tribes, rapidly expanding to 10 by the year’s end. Over the years, this grew to 12 standard tribes, 12 cosmetic skins, and four DLC tribes.
With over 20 million downloads on Google Play and the App Store, The Battle of Polytopia has become a classic in the 4X strategy genre, and it will continue to be available in its original form to both new and existing players who do not have an Apple Arcade subscription. The game is also accessible on Steam and Switch platforms.
The Battle of Polytopia+ with its exclusive benefits is now part of Apple Arcade’s lineup for March, joining other popular additions like Crayola Adventures and Bloons TD Battles 2+.
Polytopia’s success is partly attributed to its relaxed approach to monetization, with purchased content permanently integrated into a player’s save file. Offering all monetized features to Apple Arcade subscribers at no extra cost is expected to further enhance its reputation.
The game is also known for its distinctive art style, featuring colorful low-poly graphics while maintaining a focus on skill-based gameplay.
“The release of The Battle of Polytopia on Apple Arcade opens up the game to a wider audience. Whether players enjoy the unique abilities of the Cymanti tribe or the icy powers of the Polaris, each tribe in Polytopia offers a fresh gameplay experience. By providing access to all 16 tribes from the start, players can fully immerse themselves in everything Polytopia has to offer,” said Christian Lövstedt, the general manager of The Battle of Polytopia.
Despite its casual approach to monetization, The Battle of Polytopia has generated enough revenue from in-app purchases to invest six figures into solar power projects in Africa.
