Asus’ ROG Ally is upgrading with the addition of AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF), enhancing performance for DirectX 11 and 12 games.
Previously, the ROG Ally lacked AFMF support, despite using the AMD Ryzen Z1 chipset. However, the latest update brings this feature to the handheld, promising improved performance for demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and maximizing the display capabilities for less intensive games like Hi-Fi Rush.

While AFMF support has been added to the ROG Ally, accessing and utilizing it may require some manual configuration in the Radeon Software instead of the Armoury Crate utility.
AFMF operates as a motion-smoothing technology, enhancing visual consistency by generating frames between existing ones. Although it may have limitations, having AFMF on the ROG Ally offers a smoother gaming experience.
Currently, the ROG Ally stands out as the only handheld with AFMF support, potentially paving the way for other AMD-powered devices to adopt this technology in the future.
