Commencing the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Tetris, a timeless classic game, Digital Eclipse introduces Tetris Forever, an interactive museum and collection that grants players access to play various iterations of Tetris throughout its history, alongside a brand new version.
Unveiled during Nintendo’s August Partner Showcase, Tetris Forever does not have a set release date yet, but is expected to hit the market sometime this year. It will be compatible with all major platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, and GOG.
The collection will include a recreation of the original 1984 Tetris, the 1988 Famicom version, Tetris 2+ Bombliss, the multiplayer game Tetris Battle Gaiden, Tetris 3, among others. Additionally, there will be a new Tetris version named Tetris Time Warp, allowing players to switch between different gameplay and visual styles. It also supports up to four-player co-op.
Furthermore, the collection boasts 90 minutes of new documentary video content about the game’s history and creators, in addition to an interactive museum feature that enables exploration of photos, videos, and archives related to Tetris. This comprehensive offering promises to provide players with the ultimate Tetris experience, akin to visiting an arcade or amassing a vast collection of individual titles.
Digital Eclipse, now a part of Atari, specializes in preserving classic video games and has gained recognition for its collections that blend games, videos, and interactive documentaries. Recent releases include Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story, which allows players to play through 42 Minter titles, and The Making of Karateka, providing not only the original two games in the series but also offering a game-like method to explore prototypes and videos.
