Private Division has unveiled a new game set in the Middle-earth universe titled Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game. Developed by Wētā Workshop Game Studio, this cozy life simulator is situated within the captivating world created by J.R.R. Tolkien.
In 2022, the publisher of No Rest for the Wicked, Private Division, hinted at collaborating with Wētā Workshop on a game based on The Lord of the Rings. Wētā Workshop, known for its work on Peter Jackson’s trilogy, has dabbled in game development since 2014 but Tales of the Shire marks its most ambitious project to date.
Tales of the Shire offers players a relaxing life simulation experience as they navigate daily life in the Hobbit town of Bywater. Drawing inspiration from games like Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Fae Farm, and Bandle Tale: A League of Legends Story, players can customize their home, explore, farm, fish, cook, and engage in meaningful conversations with the residents of Bywater. The ultimate goal is to host a grand Bywater Festival for the Shire, where beloved characters like Gandalf might make appearances.
This game promises a refreshing take on The Lord of the Rings franchise following Monolith’s action-packed titles and the disappointing The Lord of the Rings: Gollum from 2023. Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch in the latter half of 2024.
