Sybo, the company behind Subway Surfers, has announced Niklas Orup as its new game director for the popular arcade game.
Prior to joining SYBO, Orup spent over seven years at King in various roles such as head of game for Bubble Witch 3 Saga, senior producer in the experimentation group, and business manager.
Orup also brings experience from his time at Hero Gaming as a game producer for nine months and Mobile Loyalty Holding AB as director of business & product development for a year.
Exciting Beginnings
Orup expressed his enthusiasm upon joining SYBO, saying, “I’m joining an incredibly talented and friendly team and I can’t wait to see the amazing things we will create together! Thank you to Mathias Gredal Nørvig and David Byrne for welcoming me to the SYBO family,” in a post on LinkedIn.
Reflecting on his time at King, Orup mentioned how his journey began at the Malmö studio 11 years ago and expressed gratitude for the experiences and collaborations he had there.
SYBO stated, “With a wealth of experience in free-to-play games, Orup is the perfect fit to lead Subway Surfers to new heights.”
In addition to this appointment, SYBO recently reintroduced the Craft-a-Character competition to celebrate Subway Surfers’ 12th anniversary. The game now features augmented reality elements for players to overlay characters on real-world landscapes.
