Subnautica 2 will be making a splash in Xbox Game Preview in 2025, with availability on Xbox Game Pass on launch day. Developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment shared this exciting news during the October Xbox Partner Preview event.
Although the upcoming survival game is introduced at an Xbox event, it will also be released on Steam, Windows Store, and Epic Games Store all in early access on the same day.
According to Unknown Worlds community manager Donya Abramo, “We’ve been diligently laying the groundwork for the next Subnautica adventure. Our aim has always been to involve as many community members in the early access phase as possible, collaborating with our fans and players to shape the game.” You can read more about the announcement in an Xbox Wire post.
Even though it is titled “2,” this installment marks the third game in the Subnautica series, following the original Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero (initially intended as DLC but expanded into a standalone game). This new game promises to expand the universe beyond Planet 4546B, introducing players to new creatures, environments, biomes, and base-building tools. While the trailer showcases vibrant colors, beware of the lurking horrors.
For the first time, players can enjoy four-player co-op mode, along with the option to embark on the journey solo. This feature will be available at the early access launch, allowing players to dive in with friends right away. Whether you are a seasoned player or new to the series, there will be plenty of surprises in store, with more details to be revealed leading up to the release date.
