When Does Storm Surge Happen in Fortnite?
Storm Surge is triggered in Fortnite when there are too many surviving players for that storm phase. If players have been avoiding fights and the end game is at risk of becoming too crowded, Storm Surge kicks in to thin out the herd.
In Reload tournaments, Storm Surge is activated much faster and hits much harder due to a storm survivability problem where players camp in the storm to heal. In most Battle Royale games, you may not encounter Storm Surge, but in ranked or high-level games where placement is crucial, you may experience it.
How Does Storm Surge Work in Fortnite?
Once Storm Surge is activated, an extra mechanic comes into play. The game calculates the average damage dealt to other players, and any player who has dealt less than the average will start receiving storm surge damage. This mechanic encourages players to engage in fights and push towards victory. Managing storm surge effectively can be key to winning Fortnite games at a professional level.
