Spotify has expanded its AI DJ feature to include Spanish, marking the first language addition outside of English. The AI DJ, a personalized music guide, now features a Spanish-speaking voice based on Olivia “Livi” Quiroz Roa, a senior music editor at Spotify. This follows the success of the original AI DJ “X,” voiced by Spotify employee Xavier “X” Jernigan.
Launched last year, the AI DJ serves as an audio guide to enhance music consumption on the platform with a realistic voice. The feature has seen a 200% increase in usage over the past year, indicating a growing interest among Spotify users.
The AI DJ is powered by technology from OpenAI and Sonantic, an AI voice platform acquired by Spotify. Roa’s voice was chosen after a rigorous casting process, resonating well with listeners who found it relatable and friendly. Users can now choose between DJ X and “Livi” for their AI DJ experience.
Spanish-speaking users have shown a strong interest in the AI DJ feature, prompting its launch in markets across Latin America. “Livi” is currently in beta testing, available to Spotify Premium listeners who can access the feature from the Search tab. Switching between languages is simple through the app settings.
