The highly popular multiplayer game Splitgate is making a comeback with the announcement of Splitgate 2 by 1047 Games. The sequel, set to release in 2025, has been completely rebuilt to include new faction-based portal gameplay elements.
Originally released in 2019 and gaining traction in 2021, Splitgate combined elements of Halo-style first-person shooting with innovative portal mechanics, focusing on strategic positioning rather than pure shooting skills. The game garnered over 600,000 downloads in its first week and a total of 22 million downloads overall. In 2022, the studio shifted focus away from Splitgate to work on a new project.
The cinematic trailer for the sequel showcases various fighters wielding familiar weapons and utilizing the signature portal mechanics. Each faction, including Aeros, Meridian, and Sabrask, offers unique playstyles and abilities that players can combine in 4v4 matchups to create winning strategies.
Unlike its predecessor, Splitgate 2 has been developed using Unreal Engine 5 and utilizes the expertise of top industry professionals to deliver a high-quality AAA first-person shooter experience. The game aims to offer a fresh take on the original Splitgate action.
Thanks to a significant influx of investor funding, the development team has been able to work on enhancing the graphics, gameplay mechanics, and overall longevity of Splitgate 2. The game is slated for release on various platforms, including PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
While Splitgate 2 is not scheduled for release this year, players can wishlist the game on their preferred platforms to stay updated on its progress and eventual launch.
