Sonos CEO Patrick Spence recently apologized for the ongoing issues with the Sonos platform and committed to biweekly app updates to address them. Today, an interim app update has been released to fix an issue where the app was draining excess phone battery on iOS.
The update, available now, also aims to improve stability when adding new products. It is recommended to check for updates not only for the Sonos app but also for your speaker system in the app settings.
The Sonos app has been facing challenges since May 2024 when it underwent a major overhaul before the launch of the Sonos Ace headphones. While some features were intentionally removed with plans for future updates, other issues were clearly problematic from the start.
Sonos has been actively engaging with users on the Sonos subreddit, acknowledging known bugs and sharing update timelines. However, it took over two months for company leadership to publicly address the issues, with Spence stating that resolving app issues remains their top priority.
Additionally, the company aims to release an update in late summer or fall to enable the Sonos Ace headphones to sync with the Beam soundbar, expanding the current compatibility which only works with the Sonos Arc soundbar.
