Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon has announced that Snapdragon X chips will be available in PCs priced as low as $700 next year, according to a report by The Verge. This represents a significant price drop as the current cheapest Snapdragon X PCs, such as the $999 Surface Laptop 7 and Dell Inspiron 14 Plus, are more expensive.
While Amon did not specify whether these budget-friendly PCs would be laptops, other form factors like tablet PCs and desktops are also possibilities. Qualcomm has already begun entering the mini-PC market with its $799 desktop developer kit, which could potentially compete with products like the Mac mini if a consumer version is released at a similar price.
This announcement was made during the company’s third-quarter earnings call. Although specific sales figures for current Snapdragon laptop models have not been disclosed yet, Amon mentioned that some Snapdragon X PCs have already sold out. Additionally, 6.5% of Geekbench 6 benchmarks in the past month were run on Snapdragon X PCs, indicating some level of success.
Qualcomm is collaborating with manufacturers on the next wave of Copilot+ PCs, with new Qualcomm-powered PCs set to be showcased at IFA in September. Furthermore, a Qualcomm custom CPU will be unveiled at the Snapdragon Summit in October, highlighting the ongoing momentum in the Snapdragon X PC lineup.
