The construction industry in the European Union generates more than a third of the total waste output each year, while in the U.S., it produces double the waste compared to households annually.
Sensorita aims to help reduce waste in the construction sector by addressing the root cause: the lack of reliable data. Co-founder and CEO Ulrikke Lien highlighted the industry’s limited access to data compared to other sectors, which hinders efficiency and sustainability efforts.
To tackle this issue, the Oslo-based startup deploys sensors in construction waste bins, leveraging radar and machine learning to create digital twins for each container. By providing real-time data on bin locations and fill levels, waste management companies can optimize collection schedules and enhance operational efficiency.
Sensorita’s innovative approach replaces manual fill level monitoring with automated solutions, enabling waste companies to streamline processes and reduce costs. The company’s success in proving traction early on has garnered support from investors, including a recent $3.25 million venture funding round led by Brick and Mortar Ventures.
With plans to expand beyond Norway and enhance sensor technology to identify waste types, Sensorita aims to revolutionize waste management practices in the construction industry. The company’s vision for a virtual assistant tailored to the sector signifies a pioneering step towards sustainable waste management solutions.
