Canada-based development program Scaffold has secured $1.5 million to support video game producers and start-ups in Alberta.
Sponsored by the Alberta government, the Scaffold Program will assist game producers from concept to production, working to establish publisher relations and enhance the business aspects of their games through developer collaboration.
The program has now successfully raised almost $15 million for game companies in Western Canada. PrairiesCan, a federal department in the Prairies province, has allocated CAD$1 million ($732,000) to support economic growth in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
Alberta Innovates has committed CAD$750,000 ($549,000), while Shred Capital, managed by Scaffold leader Matt Toner, is providing CAD$250,000 ($183,000).
Empowering video game entrepreneurs
Scaffold aims to offer developers mentorship, workshops, investor access, and guidance to foster growth in Alberta’s gaming industry. The objective is to double the number of small to medium-sized game businesses in the province.
“Our government is investing in innovative entrepreneurs across the Prairies to help them bring their ideas to market and expand their businesses,” said Dan Vandal, the minister for PrairiesCan, in a news release via Edmonton Journal.
“Our partnership with Scaffold will enhance the capabilities of Alberta’s tech firms to commercialize their digital media products and drive the growth of Alberta’s interactive media sector.”
