Samsung unveiled two innovative video games for its TVs at the IAB NewFronts 2024 event that eliminate the need for a controller.
Having already expanded into the gaming realm by supporting cloud gaming services and approving select video game controllers, Samsung is now introducing exclusive games for its TVs that can be played without a traditional game controller.
The first game, called Rivals Arena, is described as “a cinematic card game” that players can access through their smartphones by scanning a QR code displayed on the television screen. Developed by Return Entertainment, this image from Return Entertainment’s website provides an insight into the gameplay of Rivals Arena.
The second game, titled The Six, is an interactive trivia game integrated directly into Samsung Connected devices. Unlike Rivals Arena, players will be able to control The Six using a TV remote. While details about Rivals Arena and The Six are limited at this time, Samsung is already planning on incorporating advertising in these games, as they were announced at an advertising bureau conference.
In the case of Rivals Arena, ads will be displayed “in-between gameplay.” Samsung also intends to allow advertisers to co-brand both games and introduce more interactive advertising on Samsung TV Plus. Rivals Arena and The Six are scheduled to be released later this year.
