Samsung Electronics is venturing into the professional Dota 2 scene with the announcement of the Odyssey Cup Dota 2 Championship. The event, unveiled on Tuesday, Aug. 27, will run throughout September and October, featuring a prize pool of $20,000.
Scheduled between Sep. 21 and Oct. 13, the Odyssey Cup will have online qualifiers leading up to the Grand Finals at Hatten Hotel in Melaka, Malaysia.
Teams and players from Oceania and Southeast Asia are invited to participate. The SEA qualifiers will feature twelve teams from Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, with two additional teams from New Zealand and Australia also in the mix. These qualifiers are set for Sep. 21-25.
Following the qualifiers, the SEA finals on Sep. 28-29 will see twelve qualified teams compete against four invited pro squads, with the top six advancing to the Grand Finals on Oct. 10-13. The Grand Finals will host the six SEA finalists and two teams from Oceania.
The tournament will feature Samsung’s cutting-edge gaming monitors, with the finals utilizing these peripherals. Samsung’s new 32-inch Odyssey G8 OLED gaming monitor, known for its 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response time, promises immersive gameplay for participants.

The Odyssey Cup comes after TI2024, potentially featuring teams like Talon and Aurora. With a focus on amateur teams from SEA and Oceania, this event promises to showcase the talent from these strong but often overlooked regions in the Dota 2 scene.
