Saber Interactive recently announced an exciting new VR project: Exploding Kittens VR, a virtual reality adaptation of the popular card game. This VR version brings the kittens closer to players, allowing for online multiplayer with up to five players or single-player mode against bots. The game is set to launch in the fall of this year and is currently available for pre-order on Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 2.
Exploding Kittens VR introduces several new features not found in the original card game, including VR-exclusive mini-games, character customization in the social hub, three game modes (classic, blitz, and duel), and various tools to outsmart opponents. One such tool is the ability to defuse the Exploding Kitten. This isn’t the first video game adaptation of the card game, as a mobile version is already available on iOS, Android, Switch, and Netflix gaming.
This project is just one of many in development at Saber. The company is also working on other upcoming releases like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (launching on September 9), Jurassic Park Survival, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, and a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Saber is publishing Exploding Kittens under license from Asmodee Entertainment, a company that recently split from the Embracer Group. Asmodee now manages the tabletop and board game IPs owned by Embracer, including popular titles like Catan, 7 Wonders, and Ticket to Ride. Additionally, Saber itself separated from Embracer this year when it was acquired by Saber founder Matthew Karch’s Beacon Interactive.
