Roblox is set to implement a system allowing developers to receive payments in real currency on PC later this year, resulting in a higher revenue share for developers.
Using a tiered system, experiences sold at set prices will earn developers a range of revenue shares in real money, initially on Desktop only but with future expansion plans to other devices.
Additionally, Roblox will introduce a price optimization tool in the near future, which will conduct price tests and suggest the most effective pricing strategy for an experience. This tool will consider regional variations in pricing to help developers optimize their in-game pricing.
Increased Earnings
Currently, Roblox developers earn Robux from player spending in their games. These Robux can be used to purchase other experiences or converted to real money through the Developer Exchange program, if they have accumulated 30,000 Robux or more.
With Roblox’s “new economics“, developers will now have the option to earn real currency instead of Robux, with a higher revenue share as a result.
At the recent 2024 Developer Conference, Roblox announced that developers will receive a higher share of revenue based on the price of the experience sold, ranging from 50% for a $9.99 experience to 70% for a $49.99 experience.
Users will now have the option to purchase games with real money instead of Robux as a result of these changes.
This marks a shift in Roblox’s monetization strategy, following the introduction of selling real-world cinema tickets on the platform for the first time.
In addition to commerce experiments on the platform this year, which allowed players to buy real-world products from various brands, Roblox plans to enable sales of physical merchandise from Roblox creators in the future.
Roblox’s founder and CEO, David Baszucki, expressed excitement about the upcoming products and features that will enhance connection and gameplay on the platform. He also looks forward to seeing how these changes will benefit creators and diversify the content on Roblox. Baszucki stated, “We can’t wait to build it with you.”
