After merging several minor regions into one, Riot has announced the creation of the new LoL APAC League for 2025.
LoL APAC League 2025 – Worlds Qualification and Playoff Format Explained
Similar to the major regions entering the summer playoffs to qualify for Worlds 2024, teams from minor regions like VCS, PCS, LJL, and LCO are also vying for their spot at the year’s biggest tournament.
Riot Games has announced that these teams will also be competing for spots in the new LoL APAC league set to launch next year following the merge of the four regions.
With a focus on showcasing higher-stakes matches and rewarding top-performing teams, Riot has unveiled the qualification format for the upcoming APAC League ecosystem.
Partner and Guest Slots – Hybrid Partnership with Relegation
The new league will have a total of 8 slots, with Riot introducing a hybrid partnership combined with a promotion/relegation system. In their latest update, the publisher outlined how the league will be structured.
There will be 4 Partner slots, selected through a rigorous process set by Riot. These teams are expected to enhance competition and sustainability, acting as leaders in growing the new APAC league.
Meanwhile, the remaining 4 slots are designated as “Guest Slots”. Within this category, there are Competitive Merit Guest Slots and Invited Guest Slots. The former are awarded to top-placed teams in the 2024 PCS and VCS Playoffs, excluding Partner teams, emphasizing the significance of a strong finish in the Summer playoffs.
Invited Guest Slots are intended to promote diversity and inclusivity, showcasing talents from various regions. All 4 Guest Slots will be determined through a promotion/relegation tournament at the conclusion of the 2025 season, requiring teams to defend their slots. Further details will be disclosed at a later date.
As the LoL esports landscape evolves in 2025, major changes are underway. In addition to the APAC league merger, Riot has merged the LCS, CBLOL, and LLA into the new Americas League, streamlining the total number of LoL leagues to 5 (LEC, LCK, and LPL being the remaining three).
