Riot Games has provided updates on the new Americas League, as well as more detailed information on the tier 2 ecosystem set for the upcoming 2025 season.
Americas League Tier 2 teams will get a chance to compete in Tier 1
The upcoming 2025 season will introduce a new era in League of Legends esports with the LCS, CBLOL, and LLA coming together to form the Americas League. Divided into two conferences, this new structure aims to enhance competition through cross-regional play and community unity.
Riot Games has also outlined plans for the Tier 2 system, providing opportunities for new talents to enter the professional scene. Tier 2 teams will now have the chance to qualify for Tier 1 through guest slots, with these slots being contested by four competitive leagues on an annual basis.
Tier 2 Americas system explained
The ecosystem will consist of two conferences, each featuring two leagues: North (NACL & LRN) and South (CBLOL Academy & LRS). The leagues will introduce a Full Fearless format in the first split, ensuring diversity in champion picks and bans.
Liga Regional Norte (LRN) will represent Latin America North, encompassing Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and Colombia, while Liga Regional Sur (LRS) will include teams from Latin America South, covering countries like Ecuador, Peru, and Argentina.
At the end of the season, promotion tournaments will determine the top tier-2 teams from each league, along with guest teams, to compete for promotion to Tier 1.
Teams promoted to Tier 1
Promoted teams will operate under a partner team model, offering sustainable investment opportunities and access to international tournaments such as MSI and Worlds.
Tier 3 Integration and Tier 1 Sister teams
Qualifiers will be available for teams seeking entry into the Tier 2 ecosystem, while Tier 1 sister teams and collegiate teams can participate in Tier 2 with limited capacity. Further details on this integration will be disclosed later this year.
