Heavy Is The Crown signifies a monumental collaboration between Linkin Park and the gaming industry. The League of Legends World Championship, known as Worlds, is the premier LoL event, attracting over six million concurrent viewers last year.
“Partnering with Riot to create this anthem for the global League of Legends community has been an amazing experience,” said Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park in a statement. “The song is a true highlight of our new era, blending our signature sound with fresh energy. We are thrilled for players and fans to experience it!”
“The Worlds anthem is the most anticipated music moment for League players each year and has become a coveted global fixture in music,” said Maria Egan, global head of music at Riot Games in a statement. “As the band embarks on this exciting new journey, we are honored to collaborate with them for the 2024 anthem. The lyrics of ‘Heavy Is The Crown’ perfectly capture the narrative of this year’s Worlds and serve as a powerful accompaniment to our music video.”
Billboard hails Linkin Park’s comeback as “triumphant,” joining the ranks of previous Worlds Anthem performers like Imagine Dragons, Lil Nas X, Zedd, NewJeans, and more. Collectively, these anthems have garnered over 10 billion streams across Digital Service Providers (DSPs).
Most recently, NewJeans’ 2023 Worlds anthem Gods set a record for the biggest debut in anthem history, accumulating nearly 270 million global streams across DSPs, with its music video garnering almost 100 million views on the League of Legends YouTube channel.
