Reddit is implementing new updates to its iOS and Android apps to enhance user engagement with conversations on the platform. The company announced on Wednesday the launch of a unified media player, instant comment loading, and a direct shortcut to conversations. With Reddit’s focus on facilitating discussions on a wide range of topics, prioritizing conversations in the mobile apps is a logical move.
To improve the flow across different post types on Reddit, a unified media player is being introduced. Users can swipe through to view comments and explore new content. Accessing the media player is as simple as clicking on an image or video. Reddit recognizes the importance of consistent navigation to ensure seamless conversations across post types.
Moreover, clicking on the comments button for a post in the feed now takes users directly to the top of the comments section. Previously, users had to scroll through the post page to access the comments. Reddit has also introduced a context bar that remains at the top of the page, enabling users to easily navigate back to the post or delve deeper into the content.
These updates follow Reddit CPO Pali Bhat’s recent statement to TechCrunch about the company’s product roadmap, which includes faster loading times, enhanced moderator and developer tools, and an AI-powered language translation feature.
