Google Messages is in the process of updating how message types are displayed on Android phones. Instead of showing “Text message” or “RCS message”, it will now simply display (Text) or (RCS) to create a cleaner and less technical appearance.
According to 9to5Google’s Abner Li, this change has been noticed by some users, although the rollout is gradual, as is typical with Google updates. The distinction between traditional SMS messaging and RCS, which stands for Rich Communication Services, is important as RCS offers advanced features like read receipts and file sharing.
Google has been making various updates to its apps recently to enhance user experience. This change, although minor, underscores Google’s efforts to make the Android platform more user-friendly and appealing to newcomers, particularly those transitioning from iOS.
