Razer has expanded support for its innovative Snap Tap feature, originally introduced with the Huntsman V3 Pro keyboard. This feature enhances input speed between keys, particularly beneficial for games like Valorant, Apex Legends, and Rainbow Six: Siege. Now, most of Razer’s gaming keyboards and Razer Blade laptops, known for being among the best in the market, are compatible with Snap Tap.
Snap Tap was initially associated with Hall Effect switches, but this latest update proves that Snap Tap is not limited to this switch type. It enables seamless switching between two keys without fully lifting the finger, prioritizing the most recent input. This allows for rapid and precise movements, such as strafing back and forth between keys like A and D.
Razer recommends using Snap Tap in conjunction with the Rapid Trigger feature on Hall Effect keyboards, but it is also compatible with traditional mechanical keyboards like the Black Widow V4 Pro 75% Wireless.
Supported devices for Snap Tap include keyboards released over a decade ago, as long as they are supported by Razer Synapse 4. A full list of supported devices can be found on Razer’s website.
While Snap Tap has been successful in competitive gaming, it has also sparked controversy. Valve and ESL recently banned Snap Tap from their official servers and events, citing concerns about input automation. Despite this, Razer remains a pioneer in esports-focused technology.
Some individuals have criticized Snap Tap, labeling it as “cheating.” Valorant player Ethos and PC hardware reviewer Optimum are among those who have voiced these concerns.
Introduced with the Huntsman V3 Pro, Snap Tap is integrated into the keyboard’s firmware, allowing usage without Razer Synapse 4. However, for other devices like the Razer Blade 14 or Black Widow V4, installation of Synapse 4 is required to utilize Snap Tap.
