Speaking at StrictlyVC LA, Lyu shared his vision for Rabbit’s r1, a pocket AI assistant that sets itself apart with its unique capabilities. The device, which is half the size of a phone, can perform a wide range of tasks using voice commands. Lyu emphasized the importance of combining “intent” and “action” to create a seamless user experience.
Reflecting on the evolution of technology, Lyu noted, “This is the first time in history that a device like this is actually possible.” He highlighted the role of transformer-based systems in enabling the functionalities of the r1.
Addressing the challenges of leveraging language models for practical tasks, Lyu explained Rabbit’s approach of training a “large action model” using real user interactions with popular apps. This method allows the AI to automate actions based on contextual information.
Despite the competition from tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Apple, Lyu remains focused on Rabbit’s mission. He emphasized the importance of staying true to their vision and not being swayed by external pressures.
With Rabbit’s innovative approach and strong customer demand, the company has achieved significant success in sales, with over 100,000 orders for the r1. Lyu attributes this success to the dedication of his team and their ability to optimize costs.
Looking ahead, Rabbit aims to explore new revenue streams, such as app-specific models that users can train and sell. While challenges lie ahead, Lyu remains committed to navigating the complex landscape of AI technology.
“As a startup, you have to embrace the uncertainty and challenges that come your way,” Lyu remarked. “The competition from big tech companies only pushes us to innovate faster and better. It’s a survival game, but we’re playing to win.”
