Concord, PlayStation’s upcoming PvP hero shooter, is nearing release, with two beta periods scheduled for July before its August 23 launch.
For the first time, players will have the opportunity to experience the game, with those who preorder gaining early access. The company, in collaboration with developer Firewalk Studios, announced that the first beta, from July 12-14, is exclusive to preorders and up to four friends, followed by an open beta from July 18-21. Both betas will be available on PlayStation 5 and PC with crossplay enabled.
Most launch features and gameplay elements will be accessible during the beta phase, with players able to test all 16 freegunners across four maps. An additional map, Bone Mines, will be introduced during the open beta weekend. The first beta includes modes like Trophy Hunt, Cargo Run, and Clash Point, with Area Control being added in the open beta.
Concord represents PlayStation’s foray into the hero shooter genre, offering a 5v5 experience with diverse freegunners each equipped with unique skills and weapons. The game follows a similar launch strategy and pricing model as Helldivers 2, emphasizing live service and PC integration.
The success of Overwatch raises the question of whether Concord can make an impact in the saturated market, especially after its lukewarm reception due to the initial cinematic trailer. Firewalk has promised additional cinematics during the beta phase to potentially win over skeptics.
