During the PGL Copenhagen Major tonight, protesters rushed onto the stage during the G2 vs. MOUZ quarterfinal match. Their protest seemed to be aimed at G2’s sponsorship with CSGORoll, a skin trading platform and official partner of G2.
Protesters detained
Despite the disruption during map 2 on Vertigo, security quickly intervened, and the protesters were removed from the stage. Unfortunately, the trophy was damaged in the scuffle, but it was accidental as it fell on one of the protesters instead of being intentionally broken.
Both attendees and talent, including Eefje “sjokz” Depoorte, condemned the protest as a disgrace. Nevertheless, the players managed to focus on the game and deliver an outstanding performance in Counter-Strike.
During the post-game interview, G2, the match winners, chose to highlight the positive aspects of the game. They expressed gratitude for the audience’s support during the incident and celebrated their 2-0 victory.
“Thank you for staying with us tonight, we had some difficult situations so thank you” – Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, G2 Esports
The arena security’s swift response to the incident was commendable. The protesters were promptly removed from the stage, detained by the police, and then escorted out of the venue. Security measures were heightened, and additional barricades were put in place to ensure the safety of players and the audience for the remainder of the event.
G2 to face NaVi in the semi-finals
Despite the disruption, G2 secured their spot in the semi-finals where they will face NaVi tomorrow. The competition continues as FaZe Clan seeks to advance by defeating Team Vitality after their revenge win against Team Spirit earlier in the day at the IEM Katowice grand finals.
